Join our UK/EMEEA team as a General Ledger Team Leader

Purpose of the role:

As a GL Team Leader, you will be responsible for month-end and year-end closings while leading a team of GL accountants. This role combines people leadership with hands-on involvement in complex accounting activities.

We are looking for someone who not only enjoys leading a team but is also eager to stay operationally engaged. You will actively participate in complex analyses, investigations, and the resolution of challenging accounting matters, acting as a senior point of expertise within the team.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Supervision & Team Leadership: Lead and supervise a team of GL accountants and specialists, providing guidance, training, and support. Allocate tasks, ensure workload balance, and conduct performance reviews with goal setting and feedback.
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis: Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial reports, including P&L statements and balance sheets. Analyze financial data, identify trends, and provide insights to support strategic decision-making while ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal policies.
  • Month-End & Year-End Closing: Lead month-end and year-end closing processes, reviewing accruals, adjustments, and financial statements to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Process Improvement: Identify inefficiencies in GL operations and implement process improvements. Apply best practices and stay updated on industry trends to optimize financial workflows.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with other departments, auditors, and stakeholders to resolve inquiries and provide financial data. Facilitate effective communication within the team and across the organization.
  • Compliance & Audit Management: Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and external audit requirements. Manage and coordinate internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and support.
  • Training & Development: Support professional growth by providing training and development opportunities in GL accounting and reporting. Stay updated on accounting standards and share relevant knowledge with the team.
  • Ad Hoc Projects & Initiatives: Lead and participate in special projects, process automation, and system implementations. Provide financial expertise and guidance for company initiatives and projects. 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor in Finance / Accounting or related
  • 5+ years of experience in finance accounting
  • Experience leading team 
  • Experience in change and transformation projects, including process reengineering, technology implementations, and cultural change initiatives 
  • English on a professional level.
  • Advanced excel skills, prior SAP/HFM or equivalent is an advantage.

ABS encompass a broad range of financial activities designed to support businesses in their day-to-day financial operations, long-term planning, and compliance with regulations. These services are crucial for maintaining financial health, making informed decisions, and achieving the overall financial objectives of the organization. The key outputs of ABS are to provide accounting services including the summarizing and reporting of financial transactions of a business, preparing financial statements, managing accounts payable and receivable, and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.
