Key Purpose Statement
The National Account Sales Manager is responsible for developing and executing national customer strategies that drive volume, distribution, rate of sale, and brand equity across Canada's leading restaurant, hotel, entertainment, and hospitality groups.
The role will lead relationships with key national and regional chain operators, negotiate customer agreements, develop joint business plans, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver commercial growth while strengthening the positioning of Asahi Canada's premium portfolio.
This position plays a critical role in expanding our presence within strategic national accounts and ensuring execution excellence across the field sales organization. This position is additive to the current Asahi Canada structure and a testament to our investment to developing a strong On Premise presence.
Key Responsibilities:
National Account Management
- Own and manage a targeted portfolio of national and regional On-premise chain accounts across Canada.
- Develop and execute annual account plans and account-specific growth strategies aligned with the On Premise channel strategy, customer segmentation and investment priorities.
- Own assigned-account volume, net revenue, distribution, rate of sale, profitability and portfolio targets.
- Identify customer-specific opportunities to expand distribution, improve rate of sale, increase menu presence and grow premium portfolio penetration.
- Maintain a disciplined account engagement cadence, including customer meetings, internal updates and business reviews.
Customer Relationships and Joint Business Planning
- Build effective relationships with customer stakeholders, including operators, procurement teams, beverage leaders and other decision-makers.
- Lead annual joint business planning for assigned accounts, translating shared priorities into measurable plans, milestones and execution requirements.
- Conduct regular customer business reviews using performance data, marketplace insights and agreed scorecards.
- Manage day-to-day customer engagement and service, escalating material risks, exceptions or executive-level matters to the Director as appropriate.
- Coordinate senior leadership engagement with assigned customers when it advances the relationship or supports critical negotiations.
Negotiation and Commercial Agreements
- Lead contract negotiations and commercial agreements for assigned accounts within approved authority, pricing, legal and investment guardrails.
- Negotiate menu placements, draught and packaged listings, portfolio opportunities, activations and promotional programs.
- Build clear commercial cases for proposed agreements and obtain required internal approvals before commitment.
- Maintain accurate records of customer agreements, obligations, milestones and renewal dates, and ensure commitments are fulfilled.
Account Level Promotional Planning
- Plan, manage and optimize trade investment for assigned accounts within budgets and allocation parameters approved by the On Premise Sales Director.
- Evaluate customer opportunities using volume, revenue, profitability, strategic fit and execution potential.
- Track investment performance, validate execution and recommend account-level reallocations or corrective actions within approved parameters.
- Partner with Finance and Trade Marketing to ensure investment proposals, accruals, claims and post-program evaluations are accurate and timely.
Forecasting, Analytics and Performance Management
- Maintain accurate account forecasts through the DRM and planning process and clearly communicate risks, opportunities and assumptions.
- Use CRM, depletion reporting, customer data and internal analytics to monitor performance and identify gaps or opportunities.
- Maintain accurate customer plans, contacts, activities, opportunities and commitments in company systems.
- Provide concise account performance updates and recommended actions to the Director and cross-functional stakeholders.
Portfolio Growth and Brand Building
- Champion Asahi Canada’s premium portfolio, including Asahi Super Dry, Peroni Nastro Azzurro, Pilsner Urquell and emerging brands, across assigned accounts.
- Develop customer-specific selling stories, activation plans and solutions that support distribution, rate of sale, premiumization and brand equity.
- Leverage approved trade marketing programs, partnerships, events, education and advocacy initiatives to strengthen customer and consumer engagement.
- Identify relevant opportunities for non-alcohol and 0.0 portfolio growth in target accounts.
Scope:
- Geographic: Responsible for a defined geographic territory (English Canada)
- Cross functional interaction with marketing, finance, supply, peers and superiors
- Occasional evening and weekend hours to deliver results
- In-field / customer facing travel 80% of the time
- 25% Travel within Canada
- Hybrid home and office based
Desired Experience
- University / College / Post Secondary degree mandatory, preferably in a related field
- 5+ years of progressive sales experience within beverage alcohol, consumer packaged goods, hospitality, or foodservice.
- Experience managing national or regional chain customers.
- Proven track record of achieving volume and revenue targets.
- Experience negotiating commercial agreements and managing customer investments.
- Knowledge of the Canadian on-premise landscape is strongly preferred.
